Dogs Crave This Type of Water

Providing your dog with fresh water is a necessity, but getting him to drink enough of it can sometimes be a challenge. Would you like to drink standing water that has been sitting in a bowl at room temperature for hours? No, and neither would your dog. Fountains that continuously circulate water are more enticing to your pet, and the water they provide is actually healthier for your dog too.

The Drinkwell Sedona Fountain from PetSafe is uniquely designed to accommodate large dogs and multi-pet households. It can hold up to 100 ounces of water – much more than other similar pet drinking fountains – and its clear bowl design offers a good size drinking area for dogs with large or flat faces. The large bowl also helps to minimize splashes and spills.

Our chocolate lab is only 5 months old. She has been raised in our chaotic home, so she's used to different noises, and her natural puppy curiosity would definitely lead her to try drinking out of a fountain like this. However, I wondered about our other dog – a 5 year old boxer. She's a rescue and is very timid around new sounds, sights and smells. She also does not like water. I thought this fountain may intimidate her.

PetSafe says that the Sedona Fountain is equipped with a whisper-quiet fountain feature, which would be ideal for dogs like our boxer. I haven't actually tried it, so I can't say for sure. If you have an apprehensive dog, and you've used this fountain (or one that is similar) please leave a comment below and let us know if your pet enjoyed it.

I mentioned that the water provided by this fountain is actually healthier for your dog as well. That's because the Sedona Fountain provides dual water filtration with an activated carbon filter that removes any odors or bad tastes and a foam filter that captures any debris, including pet hair. The natural aeration caused by the movement of the water  naturally cools and freshens the water, making it more appealing to your pet as well.

The fountain consists of an impact-resistant plastic bowl and a ceramic tower. Both are top rack dishwasher safe. The low-voltage 12V system and submersible pump allow for safe operation. The filters are replaceable, and PetSafe recommends that this canine drinking fountain be used indoors only.
