Review: Dremel Pet Nail Grooming Tool For Dogs

Trimming your pet's nails can be nerve wracking. Many dog owners do not want to perform this grooming task because they fear they will clip the nail too short. Using a Dremel Pet Nail Grooming Tool, also known as the dog nail grinder, provides peace of mind as it slowly files the nail instead of clipping off a large piece at once.

UPDATE: NEW Dremel 7300-PGK Dog Nail Filing Tool

But is Dremel worth the price, and is it actually better than traditional pet nail clippers? In this Dremel tool review, I'll demonstrate why this tool may or may not be good for you and your pet, and provide you with my own tips and opinion on the product.

Dremel 7350-PET 4V Pet & Dog Nail Grinder, Easy-To-Use & Safe Nail Trimmer, Professional Pet Grooming Kit - Works on Large, Medium, Small Dogs & Cats There are pros and cons to using a Dremel tool, but many pet owners and professional dog groomers find it very effective.

It is still possible to shave the nail too short and go too far, but it's much less likely to expose the quick while using a Dremel than it is when using traditional dog nail clippers.

Are you new to trimming your dog's nails and don't know how to cut dog's nails? I've made a step-by-step video that you should watch below for some helpful tips.

Before you decide on your next pet nail trimmers, don't be afraid to try multiple products. Many retailers offer a 30-day refund policy. You can purchase multiple dog nail trimming tools, including the Dremel Pet Nail Grooming Tool.

Make sure you test all your pet nail clippers/trimmers to see which one you prefer, since they all work differently. All tools will get the job done, but you need to find one that you're going to be comfortable using for a long period of time, at least once a week.

Dremel Dog Nail Trimmer Review

How to use a Dremel?

Dremel is similar to a nail file for humans, except that it is powered by a battery and you don't have to move it back and forth. The file on the head of the Dremel Pet Nail Grooming Tool rotates rapidly to trim the nail much faster than you could with a manual file.

As in all of my video product reviews, I always demonstrate how the device works. With this one you can also see in my video above how simple it is to use the Dremel nail trimmer. Simply flip the switch to ‘high' or ‘low' and gently press the file head against your pet's nail.

For safety reasons, you cannot press it too firmly against the dog's nail or the Dremel will stop spinning.

As the nail begins to grind down, continue moving the Dremel forward. You'll know when it's time to stop as the pointed tip of your pet's nail will be gone.

You'll have an easier time trimming your dog's nails if they are white, because you can see through to the quick. Black and brown nails are not transparent, so you'll need to be very careful not to shave too much of the nail down.

It's best to stop when the pointed end of the nail is gone. Although the Dremel Pet Nail Grooming Tool does take some of the guess work out of trimming your dog's nails, but it's still possible to cause Fido some pain.

Is Dremel or other dog nail grinder for you?

Dog nail grinders or trimmers may not be fit for everybody. Some groomers prefer traditional pet nail clippers over battery-powered trimmers. I recommend you read about how this tool works, and maybe even try it within the 30-day return policy, to see whether Dremel tool is the right product for your Fido.

If you're already considering the purchase of a Dremel tool, make sure to choose one with a rechargeable battery. You can find less expensive alternatives that require disposable batteries, but they'll end up costing you more in the long run (provided you continue to use it).

A rechargeable battery also offers cordless operation, which is a huge advantage when trimming your pet's nails. The instructions that come with this product state that it should work for up to 3 hours on a single charge, but after about 75 minutes of continuous use the battery was beginning to die.

Dremel 7350-PET 4V Pet & Dog Nail Grinder, Easy-To-Use & Safe Nail Trimmer, Professional Pet Grooming Kit - Works on Large, Medium, Small Dogs & Cats When I tested it out by using it in intervals, the battery life was increased to nearly 2.5 hours.

It recharges quickly in less than one hour, but I tried using it after 15 minutes of charging and was able to get enough juice to trim the nails of one of our dogs.

Ultimately, this tool works great, and it does what it's supposed to do.

Dremel dog nail grinder is well made and comes with additional file heads so you won't have to worry about replacements for quite a long time. As I demonstrate in my video, it's also very easy to replace the file head using the included wrench and the convenient locking button.

Personally, I prefer traditional pet nail clippers, but you may feel more confident using a Dremel Pet Nail Grooming Tool. One of the main reasons that I don't care for this tool is the noise that it makes.

In my video review above, I demonstrate what this tool sounds like on ‘low' and ‘high'. Either way it makes a very noticeable sound, although it is quieter on the low setting.

It will take some gradual training to get your dog used to hearing this sound. The buzzing of the motor will likely make him nervous at first, but he should get used to it the more you use it.

Please note: If you have a very timid dog, he may not ever allow you to use the Dremel because of the noise that it makes.

Review of Dremel Pet Nail Grooming Tool For DogsYou can buy the Dremel trimmer on Amazon for about $25. That's more expensive than most traditional nail clippers, which is another drawback. I also find traditional clippers much faster to get the job done than a Dremel.

For example, I can clip all of my dog's nails with traditional clippers in the time that it takes me to finish one paw with a Dremel. Honestly, what it comes down to is personal preference. In this case, my preference is not the Dremel tool.
