Keeping your dog safe should be your top priority, and that's no easy task. There are many pet products on the market that are designed to help dog owners protect their pups. LED dog collars, like this one from 4 Paws Tech, will allow you to keep an eye on Fido after dark.
LED collars are a great, safe way to make sure your pet is seen at night. A lot of dog owners use them if they walk their dog early in the morning or late at night. Keeping your dog visible keeps him safe, and it keeps you (or your dog walker) safe too.
I've been using the 4 Paws Tech LED collar for the last few weeks, and it's a very well made product. Is it a necessity? No, but it's definitely helpful – especially if your dog is outside a lot after dark.
Our dogs don't typically spend time outside after dark on their own. We live in a very rural area, meaning skunks, raccoons, foxes and other critters are common place around our home. Usually these animals don't come around in the daylight, but we take extra precautions with our pets at night.

When you open the package that this collar comes in, you will instantly notice the quality of the product. The nylon mesh covering the bright LED light is durable, and the collar itself is well made with strong reflective stitching.
I immediately noticed the plastic buckle. If you follow my reviews regularly, you know that I prefer metal hardware. We've had plastic hardware break one too many times in this family, so I try to always buy metal. However, the buckle is made with heavy duty plastic, and that's pretty common with most dog collars on the market now.
In my video review above, you'll see how easy it is to use this LED collar. There is a convenient push button right next to the buckle.
Push it once, and the collar will flash quickly. Push it a second time and the flashing slows down, and a third push leaves the LED light on a constant glow.
I chose the pink collar, which glows red at night. You can also select a collar that is red and glows red, an orange collar that glows red or yellow collar that glows green.
Every color is the same price – $29.95 on the company's website. It's a bit expensive as dog collars go, but the added convenience of the LED light is worth it if your pooch is often out after dark.
This LED collar is also available in four sizes to fit dogs with a neck circumference of 8″ to 25.5″. It is equipped with a lithium ion battery that is rechargeable via a USB cable (which is included when you purchase the collar).

You can do a quick charge in 1 hour or a full charge in about 3 hours. There is a charging indicator light that will change from red to green when the collar is fully charged. If you use the LED continuously, it will last for nearly eight hours.
I know this to be true, because I left it on my desk one day while I was working to see how long the battery would last on a full charge.
The company claims that you can get up to 30 days of charge out of the battery if you only use it occasionally. We've been using this collar for 34 days without recharging it. Some days we don't use it all, but typically we use it for 10-15 per minutes per day.
The 4 Paws Tech LED Dog Collar water resistant, but not submersible. If you have a dog that loves to swim, like our chocolate lab, this is a bit inconvenient. Certainly not a deal breaker, but something you will want to keep in mind if your pup loves the water.
The company also sells matching LED leashes, which would really up the safety factor if you have to walk your dog after dark. They also sell harnesses, toys and accessories, and active wear for people and pets. You can see their full product line on their website.
