Pet cameras give owners the ability to check in and see their dog when they are away from home. The Guardzilla 360° Indoor/Outdoor Camera isn't specifically designed to watch pets, but it can be used to get the job done. It provides a live 360° HD video stream right to your smartphone or tablet. Plus, like the name suggests, it can be used indoors or outside.
Like most pet owners, you probably worry about your dog when you're not home. What is he doing? Is he getting into something he shouldn't be? Is he lying around board just waiting for you to get back?
I use a pet camera to check in on our dogs during the day, and I've reviewed many cameras in the past. I've only used cameras that were specifically designed for use with pets in the past, but the Guardzilla 360° Indoor/Outdoor Camera has some features that those products don't offer.
I'll explain the pros and cons of using this pet camera to keep an eye on your dogs. I'll also give you the details on what sets the Guardzilla Camera apart from traditional pet cameras I have previously reviewed, and explain whether this device is worth its price tag or not in my opinion.
Guardzilla 360° Indoor/Outdoor Camera Review
Let me start out by saying that Guardzilla makes a very high quality, durable cameras. Their products are typically used for home security purposes. But, a camera is a camera, so any of their products could also be used to monitor your pets when you're not at home.
The main reason that I wanted to try out this camera is because it can be used both indoors and outside. I haven't found a pet camera yet that is safe to use outdoors, and I know many pet owners would like to check on their outdoor dogs when they aren't home.
As you'll see in my video review, this camera can be placed on a flat surface or mounted on a wall or ceiling. If you choose to mount it on the wall or ceiling, there is a strong magnet that will hold the camera in place. Even when I shake it around, the camera stays in place. I have no doubt that this camera will stay put no matter where you place it.
No matter where you place it, the Guardzilla 360° Indoor/Outdoor Camera will send a live 360° HD video stream right to your smartphone or tablet. Hooking it up wasn't as easy as I expected, but once I got it working the feed was crystal clear. It did have a .5-1 second lag time, but that is about the same as any similar product that I've tried.
In order to get the device to connect to my home's WiFi, I had to chat with Guardzilla's online customer support. I ended up needing to reset the camera itself as well as my router and modem.
Their customer service representative was friendly, knowledgeable and helped me fix the issue quickly. Plus, I prefer having the ability to chat online rather than having to wait on hold on the telephone trying to reach a tech. Of course, I wish I didn't have to contact tech support at all, but all-in-all the experience was simple and pleasant.
This camera is equipped with a 2-way microphone, so you can talk to your pets and hear what is going on in your home at any given time. It also has 360° passive infrared (PIR) motion detectors that will automatically send alerts to your phone or tablet when motion is detected. You can also shut off the motion detection notifications if you don't want to know every time your pet enters the proximity of the camera.
This camera from Guardzilla also has a 100 decibel alarm, which is great to deter intruders, but would likely be terrifying to any dog. If you choose to purchase this camera to keep an eye on your dog, I would definitely recommend shutting off the alarm feature.
It has auto-engaging night vision and auto-arming and disarming. The Guardzailla app is free to download on Android or iOS devices, and as you'll see in my video review above, it's very easy to use. You can also connect multiple cameras to your app if you'd like to.
While this camera has a lot of features that are beneficial to pet owners, it's also lacking many features that you will find on most cameras designed specifically for pet owners. For example, I use a pet camera that has a treat launcher so I can give my dogs a snack during the day.
Some pet cameras also include features like noise detection, which allows you to get a notification if your dogs are barking. A laser is another useful tool for pet owners that want to interact and play with their pets while they aren't home.
Even though the Guardzilla camera isn't specifically designed for pet owners, it's priced similar to devices that are. You can purchase it on the company's website for $229.99 or pick from their inventory on Amazon. You have to pay a similar price, but you only get half the features.
If you're looking for a security camera primarily, but you also want to be able to check in on your pet, the Guardzilla 360° Indoor/Outdoor Camera would be a good choice. However, if you're specifically looking for a pet camera, I would recommend a brand that is designed especially for pet owners.
