Review: MIRA Safety FirstBreed Collapsible CBRN Animal Ark

Chemical, biological and nuclear threats are growing by the day. Many people are beginning to worry about their safety and the safety of their families due to the tense state of affairs around the world. The MIRA Safety FirstBreed CBRN Animal Ark was designed to keep pets safe in the event of an emergency situation.

If there is ever a situation in which your human family members need protection from airborne viruses or bio-hazards, you will want to make sure that your pets are protected too. Some pet owners live in areas close to war zones or in regions that have the potential risk of a nuclear disaster. You may also be in the market for CBRN equipment if you live somewhere that wild fires are prevalent.

To some, this CBRN Animal Ark may seem like a silly product. However, for pet owners living in a situation where chemical, biological and/or nuclear threats are a regular occurrence, this product could save their pet's life.

MIRA Safety FirstBreed Collapsible CBRN Animal Ark Review

CBRN Animal ArkThis is the only enclosure system that provides comprehensive chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) protection for a variety of household pets. The CBRN Animal Ark is designed to protect pets from exposure to hazardous chemical and biological warfare agents, radioactive particles, and even the risk of smoke inhalation.

Basically, it’s the equivalent of a dog gas mask.

The ark has a rugged, yet lightweight construction with reinforced seams. The frame is lightweight, military-grade plastic. It can provide more than 6 hours of resistance to blister agents. The collapsible design makes this product easy to store or take along with you during an evacuation.

The ark is reusable and has a 15 year shelf life. As you can see in my video review above, the CBRN Animal Ark is completely transparent. This allows you to keep a close watch on your pet at all times. It is designed for animals weighing less than 22 pounds.

You will also the convenient duffle bag in my video above. The ark folds flat and fits easily in the bag for convenient transport. When inside the bag, the kit measures 42″ L x 16.5″ W x 8″ H. When unfolded and assembled, it measures 53″ L x 33″ W x 26″ H. The weight of the complete kit is only 19 pounds.

MB-90 Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR)

In my photo above you will see the powered air purifying respirator that completes this kit. It is sold separately from the ark, but this device is what will provide your pet with clean air to breathe.

This respirator uses an integrated blower instead of just lung power to provide the best air flow for your pet. This product is based on a design from the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). It is modified to use standard AA batteries, and can run for up to 12 hours on 8 AA batteries.

It uses two 40 mm CBRN filters and weighs just 1.8 pounds. The shelf life for the respirator is 10 years. The filters do NOT come with the PAPR, and they cost an additional $80 each. The filters have a 20 year shelf life

Speaking of cost, the ark retails for $399.95 and the powered air purifying respirator is also $399.95. In total, it would cost you more than $960 to purchase the complete setup that I show in my video review above. You can find the full line of products on the MIRA Safety website.

Clearly this kit isn't going to be affordable for every pet owner. If you are concerned about your pet's CBRN safety, then this product may be a necessary purchase. There is no price that can be set for your pet's life, so if you think this is a real threat in the area that you live in, it is definitely worth the money.
