Review: Nifti SafeLatch Dog Leash

Most pet owners believe that all dog leashes are pretty similar. They may be made of a different material or be of different lengths, but there isn’t much separating one leash from another. While The Nifti SafeLatch Dog Leash may look like any other standard nylon leash, there are a few features that set it apart from its competition.

When you’re considering the dog leash that may be right for your pet, the material that it is made of is going to be your top concern. I don’t recommend retractable leashes for any dog, as there are more dangers than advantages to these types of leashes.

So, this leaves you with the standard leash. But, you still have many options to choose from. For starters, you’ll be able to choose from a leash made from:

  • leather
  • nylon
  • cotton
  • rubber

Nylon is the most popular material used to make dog leashes, because it’s cheap, durable and easy on the dog walkers’ hands. The Nifti SafeLatch Dog Leash is made from nylon, and I was intrigued by its unique features. Now, let’s find out if it stood up to the trials of our crazy Labrador Retriever, and whether or not I would recommend it to other pet parents.

Nifti SafeLatch Dog Leash Review

Nifti SafeLatch Dog Leash ReviewWhen you initially look at this leash, you’ll see something that looks very similar to every other nylon leash hanging up at your local pet store. It’s 6-feet long and 1-inch wide. Amazingly, this leash withstood a pull force of over 660 pounds in an independent test! I told you nylon was exceptionally strong, didn’t I?

As you can see in the photo above, I chose a pink Nifti SafeLatch Dog Leash, but it’s available in 4 other colors as well, including:

  • black
  • red
  • orange
  • blue

If you look a little bit closer, you’ll see that there are few differences. One of the convenient features added to this leash is a D-ring near the top. I won’t use a leash without one of these rings, because it allows you to clip car keys or dog poop bags to the leash instead of having to hold them in your free hand.

Nifti SafeLatch Dog LeashWe live in a rural area, and many of the places that we walk our dogs do not have trash cans or receptacles for dog waste. That means that I end up carrying a full bag of poo back home with me, which could be more than a mile away!

While I trust my dog poop bags, there is nothing more disgusting than having to hang on to a full bag of poo for more than a few seconds. With the added D-ring on the Nifti SafeLatch Pet Leash, I can clip the full bag to the leash with the use of a caribiner clip.

That brings us to the most unique feature of this leash – the patented bolt-snap latch design. You may be thinking that the bolt-snap latch has been around for hundreds of years, which is true.

However, Nifti Solutions has made the first major change to the bolt-snap latch since its creation in 1881.

This change comes in the form of a strong magnet on the inside of the latch. You can see an example of how easily the magnet works in my video review. This design allows you to easily clip the leash to your pet’s collar with one hand, which is extremely beneficial if you have a dog that gets really excited for walks.

Nifti SafeLatch Dog Leash ReviewOur dog bounces around like a ball when she sees her leash. She knows that it means we’re either going for a walk or going on a fun adventure. I can’t tell you how many times I think that I have hooked her leash to her collar, when it actually didn’t get attached. The Nifti SafeLatch Leash drastically reduces the chances of an accident like this happening.

You’ll also see that the bolt is more narrow at the top. This is because there is a hole in the top of the latch that the bolt slides up into. I am a BIG fan of this feature, because it prevents your dog from being able to pull hard enough on the leash to release to the bolt.

It does offer some unique features, but the Nifti SafeLatch Dog Leash is also more than 4 times more expensive than most traditional nylon dog leashes. You’re probably used to spending about $5 on a leash like this, but this one will cost you $27!

I know that seems like a lot for a dog leash, but you also have to think about the longevity of the product, It’s quite likely that you’ll have this leash for the entire duration of your dog’s life, so that’s only a couple of dollars each year for a leash that offers additional safety features above and beyond what is offered by similar products.
