Review: Rabbitgoo Tactical Dog Harness

Dog harnesses are essential for controlling your pooch on daily walks. Collars provide a place to attach a lead, but any force from pulling on the lead will be disbursed around Fido's neck. A harness allows any force to be distributed throughout the chest. As the name would suggest, the Rabbitgoo Tactical Dog Harness isn't the average dog harness.

rabbitgoo Tactical Dog Harness for Large Dogs, Heavy Duty Dog Harness with Handle, No-Pull Service Dog Vest Large Breed, Adjustable Military Dog Vest Harness for Training Hunting Walking, Brown, L A tactical dog harness is a multi-functional harness that allows you to attach bags, supplies, and equipment for your canine to carry. They are the preferred type of harness for military and police dogs. Hikers and extreme sportsmen can also benefit from outfitting their pup with a tactical harness.

The Rabbitgoo Tactical Harness won't be suitable for all dogs, but it may be perfect if you have a large, active canine companion. Choosing the right dog harness isn't just about the look or the price. You need to know which type of harness will be right based on how you walk your dog, and how to get the proper fit.

Rabbitgoo Tactical Dog Harness Review

Rabbitgoo Tactical Dog HarnessThis is an over-the-head harness, which is my favorite style. With a step-in harness, you have to get your dog to step through the straps of the harness and pull it up around his chest. As the name suggests, an over-the-head harness just slips right over Fido's head and secures with buckles on either side of his chest.

There are also buckles on either side of the neck. If your dog doesn't like having a harness slipped over his head, you can always open these buckles and secure them around his neck once the harness is on.

Each of the four buckles has an adjustment strap, and there is another strap to adjust the harness around your dog's chest. 5 adjustment points make getting the perfect fit a breeze, and once you've adjusted it the first time, the Rabbitgoo Tactical Dog Harness stays in place. You won't need to struggle to adjust it every time you put it on your pooch.

There are also two metal leash attachments. One is the standard attachment on the back of the harness between the dog's shoulder blades. The other is in the middle of the chest, which is the attachment you would use when training your dog not to pull on his leash.

A traffic handle is located on the back of the harness up by your dog's neck. This handle allows you to take control of your dog whenever necessary. For example, if you hike with your dog frequently and want to keep him close when you encounter other people/animals on the trail, you'll need a harness with a handle like this.

Unfortunately, the Rabbitgoo Tactical Dog Harness is only available in one size to fit large dogs. Typically, small dogs wouldn't need a tactical harness as they cannot support the added weight of equipment and heavy gear. This harness will fit a dog with a neck girth of 24.8″-34.6″, a chest girth of 31.5″-41.3″, and a back length of 11.4″.

Rabbitgoo Tactical Dog HarnessAs you can see in my video review, this harness is made of military-grade 1050D nylon with reinforced stitching. It has a padded chest plate and metal hardware. Metal hardware is especially important on a tactical harness because plastic buckles and attachment rings can break easily.

I worried that my Labrador, Saddie, would get too hot while wearing this harness on hikes. It is made with breathable mesh to keep your active dog cool, and I was surprised to find that Saddie is always comfortable while wearing this harness, no matter how active she is.

Most tactical dog harnesses, including this model from Rabbitgoo, feature a MOLLE attachment system. MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment, and it's the same system used on backpacks issued by many branches of the armed forces.

This dog harness also has hook and loop panels and multiple Velcro attachment points to display patches, badges, name tags, etc… As you can tell, this harness isn't going to be suitable for all dogs. However, if you have a large, active dog, a tactical harness may be just what he needs.

You can purchase the Rabbitgoo Tactical Dog Harness on Amazon for $29.98. Many tactical harnesses for dogs sell for $50-$80 and some are even more expensive than that! For the quality, features, and comfort that this harness from Rabbitgoo provides, I think it's a great value for the money.
