Review: David Oreck Pet Odor Eliminating Candle (2018)

Eliminating pet odors is a struggle that we have all faced. From urine odors to the stench of wet dogs, it seems like pets are always leaving behind some kind of stench. Aerosol sprays only seem to mask the odors, but the David Oreck Pet Odor Eliminating Candle actually absorbs and eliminates odors from the air.

Most candles just put fragrance into the air. The odor and fragrance mix together, which smells better but not by much. Usually, I recommend removing the cause of the odor. That could mean scrubbing a urine stain, giving your dog a bath, or cleaning the upholstery of your furniture.

Was the David Oreck Pet Odor Eliminating Candle effective? Would I recommend it to family and friends? I'll give you all the details in this extensive review.

David Oreck Pet Odor Eliminating Candle Review

David Oreck Pet Odor Eliminating CandleI was definitely skeptical about the effectiveness of this candle going into this review. I'm not a huge fan of candles, because they only put fragrance into the air and don't actually do anything to help the original problem. I am also sensitive to strong fragrances, as they usually give me a headache.

I was pleased to find out this Pet Odor Eliminating Candle from the David Oreck Candle Company had a very subtle scent. The candle in my review has a fresh linen scent, and it's also available in soft citrus or neutral scents. The odor isn't overpowering. In fact, if you're looking for a candle that will emit a strong fragrance, this isn't the one for you.

David Oreck Pet Odor Eliminating CandleThese candles are made from natural soy and vegetable wax. The difference between this Pet Odor Eliminating Candle and other traditional candles is the fact that the soy and vegetable waxes absorb odors and eliminate them instead of just covering them up. This type of wax also allows the candle to burn about 30% longer than regular candles.

For example, I used this candle to eliminate the odor of wet dogs from our living room a couple of weeks ago. It was a rainy day and our dogs had just come in from playing outside. I dried them off with towels, but the living smelled like a wet dog.

After burning this candle for about 20 minutes, I noticed the smell disappearing. With other candles, the wet dog smell just mixes with the fragrance of the candle, and it takes hours for it to actually go away.

This 8-ounce candle has a 50-hour burn time. For best odor neutralization, the company recommends burning the candle for 3 hours, extinguishing it, and allowing it to cool completely before lighting it again.

David Oreck Pet Odor Eliminating CandleIn the photo on the left, you can see that the wick is also wider than most candles. Instead of just a round string wick, these are wide and thin. This allows for a more even, soot-free burn. I hate that traditional candles burn down through the middle of the candle, leaving so much wasted wax on the side. I was impressed that that did not happen with the David Oreck Pet Odor Eliminating Candle.

These candles are made in the USA. An 8-ounce candle like the one featured in my review can be purchased on the company's website for $16.90. You can buy David Oreck candles on their website, but this one isn't available on Amazon yet.

Keep in mind that these candles only remove the odor from the air in your home. If you're dealing with a wet dog smell or the odor left behind after your cat uses the litter box, you'll love this candle. Once the odor-causing issue is gone, this candle will remove the smell from the air.

However, if you don't remove the source of the odor, this candle won't do that for you. For example, if there is a urine stain on your carpet, this candle will only remove the odor in the air while it's burning. Once you blow out the candle, the smell will come right back.
