How Much to Tip a Dog Groomer?

Regular grooming is essential to your dog's health and overall well-being. Professional groomers have all of the education required to give your pet the care he needs. If your groomer takes care of your pet, shouldn't you tip them? But, understanding how much to tip a dog groomer can be a challenge.

Your dog's groomer has taken the necessary courses to become a certified trainer. They have worked hard getting firsthand experience in the field to learn about different coat types, how to work with scared animals and how to provide the best service possible.

Just because you pay full price for grooming services doesn't mean that the groomer sees 100% of that money. If your groomer works for a large salon, they only see a fraction of that money in their weekly paycheck. If your groomer works for themselves, they have to use most of that money to pay their overhead costs.

When you tip your dog groomer, it shows them that you appreciate the work they did and you value their commitment to their job. Let’s face it, dog groomers deal with things on a daily basis that most of us could not handle. Their job requires a lot of tough physical labor, and they deal with some pretty nasty jobs that we wouldn't want to do ourselves.

A dog groomer lifts, clips, bathes and brushes your dog. They deal with attempted biting and scratching. They perform tasks that we would definitely do not want to do, like squeezing anal glands. They never know what they will encounter in any given day.  Showing your appreciation by tipping a dog groomer is the least you can do.

How Much to Tip a Dog Groomer?

How Much to Tip a Dog Groomer?First off, let me say that I am not a dog groomer. However, I do use professional dog grooming services regularly. I always tip my groomer to show them how much I appreciate their service.

With that being said, if you are using a new groomer and you're not satisfied with their work there is no need to leave an additional tip.

So, the question is how much to tip a dog groomer for a job well-done. I recommend tipping about 15%-20% of the grooming fee. On a $50 bill, that would be $7.50-$10

Tip what you can afford. If 15%-20% doesn't fit in your budget, leave whatever you can afford. Some people prefer to leave a flat fee tip each time they have their pet professionally groomed. For example, you feel comfortable leaving a $5 tip no matter what the grooming fee is.

When it comes right down to it, your groomer will appreciate whatever tip you can afford to leave. Tipping is a great way to ensure that your dog groomer will take good care of you and your pet in the future. When the groomer feels appreciated, they'll likely provide better service.
