Dog Names Starting With E

Are dog names starting with E sound ideal for my pet?

Well, naming your pets represents their personality or breed.

And sometimes, you prefer calling them to significant events like the day you met them or when they were born.

In my case, I named my pet Sunny because I found it on a Sunday morning while sipping my coffee.

But pet owners can’t deny the fact that sometimes, you prefer naming your dogs that speaks your personality (or favorite movie characters!), too.

The thing is, there’s no way that your pets can’t recognize what you call them.

As vet behaviorist, Dr. Christopher Pachel of Portland, Oregon, says in an interview:

“Absolutely, dogs and cats can learn their names.”

Either way, if you think dog names that start with E are memorable or appealing for you…

Then, let’s start choosing, shall we?

Dog Names Starting With E: 7 Tips on How to Name Your Pet

Choosing a name for your pet is a personal journey.

Whether it’s their birthdate or a heartwarming story, it’s important that both of your preferences are aligned.

So, here are 7 tips on how to name your dog:

1. Pick Short Names

Short dog names make it easier for your pup to recognize and retain the cue each time you call it.

Dr. Pachel agrees that—sometimes—dogs respond quickly to “short” and “choppy” names.

Meanwhile, the opposite is true for “long, slow, soothing tones.”

Guilty dog owner here.

Dealing with my Havanese dog, Dodong, I couldn’t agree more with Dr. Pachel’s take on this.

And since I don’t want to change Dodong’s name anymore, I sort of shortened the name to Dong.

It’s easier for me (and my mom) to call my stubborn pooch every time—Dodong responds quicker, too.

Interestingly, dogs have a unique way of recognizing their name or other verbal communication from humans.

According to a study, some factors affect how dogs perceive cues, such as:

  • Language
  • Word length
  • Speaker-gender
  • Voice characteristics

With this in mind, it’s vital not to delay training your pooch once you picked a name for it.

The earlier they get used to their names, the easier it is to communicate with them.

2. Avoid Names That Sound Like Commands

Another tip to take note of is to avoid names that your dogs can perceive as a command, such as:

  • Kit – sit
  • Bo – go
  • Pan – run
  • Ray – stay
  • Pom – come

Using command-like names confuses your dogs.

Consequently, training them can be a little challenging.

Important: Using swear or foul words are a big no-no, too.

Swear and foul words are often associated with aggression when spoken, which can impact your pups in a bad way.

And probably something you don’t want to yell out loud in a park, too.

Who names their dogs swear words though?

3. Double-Syllable and Vowel-Ending Names

Dog names that have double syllables—like Ella or Enzo—are easier to pronounce.

Especially when you’re at the height of your emotions chasing your escaping pooch, right?

Meanwhile, names that end in vowels also work well in dogs.

Dog names ending in a sharp a or long e give a distinctive sound to your pups, making them respond quickly upon hearing it.

Trivia: Names starting with D, T, and K are also distinct sounding in your dog’s ears.

4. Get Inspiration From What You Like

Sometimes, your pets reflect who you are.

I agree, 100%.

My pooch has this carefree, lazy, and curious attitude—some traits I possess.

That being said, dogs are like tiny, four-legged versions of you at home.

Only cuter, I guess?

Kidding aside, you can definitely name your dogs after your favorite movie characters.

Or if you’re a foodie, then there are plenty of options for you—Fries, Sushi, Melon.

Maybe, Wasabi?

You can even get inspiration from nerdy people or the world map, as mentioned above.

5. Don’t Use The Same Name Twice

Even twins have different names, right?

Using the same name for your dogs only confuses them.

And you, too.

Plus, names are like your dog’s identity.

And you may not know it, but their names mean a lot to them.

It’s literally their connection and communication with you as their fur parent.

Tip: Avoid using other family members’ names for your dog, too.

It’s funny, but no.

You can imagine how chaotic it’s gonna be at home.

6. Consider Your Pet’s Personality

Naming your four-legged friend is like branding them, too.

Say, your Husky likes to talk too much. Call it Jimmy or Fallon.

Have a lazy Pug at home? Call it Napper or Sleepy

First impression, yes.

Your pup’s name is basically telling you or other people what they are and what they usually like doing.

7. Avoid Changing Your Dog’s Name Over and Over

I’d be super confused if that dog is me.

Changing your dog’s name is okay, though.

However, it’s not advisable to do this again and again, especially when your dogs start to get used to it.

“I adopted an adult dog from the shelter, and I really want to change its name.”

Tip: Change your adult dog’s name that sounds similar to their old one.

For example, Arianna to Brianna or Jack to Huck.

The goal here is to avoid confusion in your pups.

And before you forget, choosing a new dog name needs rounds of training.

Dog Names Starting With E: Before You Go…

Names give your dog an identity and a sense of belongingness.

Imagine all strays around the world with nobody calling them their own.

This is a heartbreaking reality, which is why choosing a name for your furry one is intimate.

When you give a name to your pup, there’s a feeling that marks the beginning of your connection together.

Look how your pooch wags its happy tail when you call it by its name.

Isn’t it adorable?

Personality-wise, you can take inspiration from your dog’s breed, traits, or what they love doing.

If you like a unique name for them, then you can match your personal favorites, too.

Are you a foodie? You can go with Eggy, Espresso, or Eclair.

Like traveling? Go with Eiffel, Elko, or Enshi.

Are you into movies? Maybe try Enola, Elsa, or Endor.

What’s more, you can even name your pups after your favorite celebrity, too.

Just remember to avoid constantly changing your dog’s name.

The goal is to let them get acquainted with the name as soon as you can.

And with regular training, you officially now welcome another family member!
